Meet Lee Yancey

Lee Yancey is a proven conservative who gets results for Rankin County. As a current member of the Mississippi House of Representatives and former member of the Mississippi Senate, he brings unique insight, experience and relationships in the Legislature to be the most effective voice for Rankin County in the State Senate in the future.

In 2020, Yancey was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives, District 74 (Rankin County) where he currently serves as Chairman of the House Business and Commerce Committee, and he previously served as Chairman of the House Drug Policy Committee. He is also currently serving on the following Committees: Drug Policy, Insurance, Judiciary A, Medicaid, Public Health and Human Services, Public Utilities, Rules, and Ways and Means.

In the House, he has been honored with numerous conservative and pro-business awards including Legislator of the Year in 2024 from the Subcontractors of Mississippi and Legislator of the Year in 2026 from the Homebuilders of Mississippi. He has also been recognized as Pro-Lifer of the Year and as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Legislators.

In 2007, he was elected to the State Senate serving District 20 which encompassed portions of Madison and Rankin Counties. In that position, he served as Vice-Chairman of the Highways and Transportation Committee and as a member of the following committees: Code, Drug Policy, Education, Ethics, Finance, Insurance, Judiciary A, and Public Health and Welfare. Yancey received A ratings (Business Champion) all four years in the House from the Business & Industry Political Education Committee (BIPEC).

In his professional career, Lee Yancey has been an investment advisor representative with Element Wealth since 2008 and served as Pastor of Bay Springs Baptist Church in Jasper County from 2013–2018. He was interim pastor at several other area churches prior to that period.

He received the Key to the City of Flowood in 2009 and was a Charter member of the Mississippi National Guard Legislative Caucus. In 2013, Gov. Phil Bryant appointed Yancey to a five-year term on the Mississippi State Personnel Board where he served as Chairman from 2017–2018.

Prior to his election to the Mississippi Senate, Yancey served as Senior Consultant for the Christian Action Commission of the Mississippi Baptist Convention. While there, he wrote frequent articles for the Baptist Record newspaper.

He earned a B.A. in Religion from Mississippi College in 1991, a Master of Divinity (1993) and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Leadership Administration from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (2003). He has a Series 65 Investment License and Accident, Health or Sickness, and Life Insurance and Property and Casualty License. He has been married to his wife Courtney since 1992 and they have two adult children, Benton (Sarah) and Blakeley, and two grandchildren.
